Hanoi – Australia 2025 Summit Forges Stronger Trade, Investment and Tourism

Sydney, 31 March 2025 – The Hanoi – Australia 2025 Summit on Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion was successfully held today at the InterContinental Sydney, co-hosted by the Vietnamese Embassy in Australia and the Hanoi People’s Committee. The event brought together over 100 senior Australian business leaders, high-level Vietnamese government officials, and industry representatives to strengthen bilateral cooperation and unlock new opportunities for economic growth.

The Summit commenced with an Acknowledgement of Country and welcome remarks by Dr. Iris Celestine Tran Nguyen, Vice President of the Australia Vietnam Business Council (AVBC). Her message underscored the importance of cross-cultural respect and highlighted the symbolism of unity between Australia and Vietnam represented in the event’s setting.

Keynote speeches were delivered by:

  • H.E. Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, Deputy Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee and Chairperson of the Hanoi People’s Council,

  • H.E. Nguyen Thanh Tung, Consul General of Vietnam in Sydney, and

  • Mr. Nguyen Phu Hoa, Deputy Consul General and Head of the Vietnam Trade Office in Australia.

A series of presentations followed, showcasing Hanoi’s strategic potential and spotlighting key areas of bilateral collaboration:

  • Ms. Belinda Tumbers, CEO of SunRice, emphasized agricultural trade ties.

  • Mr. Grame Barty, Senior Advisor at Business NSW, delivered a compelling case titled “Australia, Why Hanoi, Why Now.”

  • Mr. Michael Gronert from Trade and Investment Queensland discussed the coal and mining sectors.

  • Mr. Marco Zammarelli, President of AVBC, presented a case study on Bee2’s successful expansion into Vietnam.

  • Ms. Azalia Ahmat, AVBC General Secretary, explored two-way tourism and cultural exchange initiatives.

  • Dr. Nigel Palmer from Business NSW and Dr. Taciano Bantatua, Chairman of Surecell, discussed education and healthcare collaborations.

  • Tim Wright, Director of HBC Build Australia Pty Ltd, delivered a presentation on Vietnam–Australia Bilateral Business Synergy in Construction Leveraging Vietnam’s Skilled Workforce.

In a special cultural promotion segment, Dr. Iris Celestine Tran Nguyen presented a visionary proposal to launch the Lotus ASEAN Festival – a celebration of Southeast Asian culture, flavour, and tradition. Planned to take place annually at Sydney’s iconic harbour front, the festival aims to promote Vietnamese tourism and strengthen people-to-people connections across the ASEAN region.

Notably, the event celebrated Hanoi’s green and smart city development with presentations by HANDICO, UDIC, and Hanoitourist, highlighting partnerships with Australian companies HBC Build Australia and Top Tour Pty Ltd.

The Summit culminated in the MOU Signing Ceremony, formalizing six bilateral agreements in urban infrastructure, tourism, and construction, including HANDICO& HBC Build Australia; UDIC& Fixbuild Group and Hanoitourist & Top Tour Pty Ltd.

These agreements signal a new chapter of collaboration between Hanoi and Australian enterprises.

Closing the event, Dr. Iris Celestine Tran Nguyen expressed gratitude to all delegates and emphasized the importance of continued strategic cooperation. Guests were invited for commemorative photos, marking the success of the Summit.
